2008 marks Melanie’s 20th year in the Mortgage Industry.

        Born on May 2, 1966 in Fairview Park, Ohio, Melanie A. Alexander is known to many as “Mel”.  She is the third of four children.  When she was 4, her parents moved to Hinckley, Ohio where she grew up.  She attended the Highland Local School Systems in Medina County, graduating from Highland High School in 1984.  When she was younger, she enjoyed dance, but loved most to ride and show her Arabian Horses. Her mother was a stay at home mom and enjoyed traveling with Melanie to her many riding lessons and horse shows.  Her father, David T. Lekan, was a very well respected and successful Loan Originator for over 40 years. He had begun his career in the 1960’s and is the founder of First Security Mortgage Corporation.

        After high school, Melanie continued her education by attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where her major was Business and Finance.  She pursued her love for horses while in school by riding with the Miami Equestrian Team.  During that time and after graduation, she won numerous local championships and national titles both at the college level and on the open circuit.

        In 1988, she started her full time position with First Security Mortgage as the receptionist, moving into a Loan Processor position and then becoming the FHA Direct Endorsement Underwriter for the company.  In 1992, she began originating mortgage loans and today she says she could not imagine being in any other profession.  What does she like most about her job?  “Working with the public.  I enjoy analyzing my clients’ financial situations and then educating them about various mortgage loan products so they can make a sound financial decision, whether purchasing or refinancing.”  

        Melanie is married to her husband Mark of 14 years and they have three beautiful daughters.

        Melanie is a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America (MBA), the Greater Cleveland Mortgage Bankers Association (GCMBA) and the Medina County Board of Realtors (MCBOR).
